Religion

Throughout history, the spread of beliefs has influenced the economic , social and political customs in many regions. The main religions that were spread were Islam and Buddhism . Converts of Buddhism and Islam moved around the world , the religions created change and were themselves changed. Between the second  and twelfth century , believers spread their faith to rulers as well as travelers , merchants and local communities . Each of these two major world religions were transformed as a result of encountering different people and cultures , all of them have evolved over time.

The Spread of Islam expanded rapidly after the Prophet Muhhamed death . In a few decades the territory under Muslim rule had extended onto three continents , Asia , Africa and Europe . Over the next few centuries this empire continued to expand and Islam became the chosen faith of the majority of it inhabitants . One way Islam was Spread to African societies was by Religious leaders playing religious , social and political roles . They played the role of traditional priest in African Societies. This influenced the empire socially by Muslim men became peacemakers . Also Mosques became sanctuaries. ( Doc 1 ). Another way the empire expanded was by Askia Mohammed , who was the emperor of the Songhai Empire which was under the influence of Islam . Askia Mohammed expanded Islamic influence by introducing legal and social reforms . Also Islamic judges were exposed in all of large districts in the empire. This influenced politically by the court of Askia becoming the highest court of the land  as well as justice was administrated rather than traditional African laws. Askia also remolded his Empire. ( Doc 3 ). Trade was a major influence economically in the Islam religion . Trade led to the Spread of food and industrial crops . The Islamic religion had a huge impact in Spain , it also changed the lives of many . “Some of the finest centers of Muslim life were established in Spain “. The Islamic religion really helped the Spanish. One way Islams improved their life was by building  Public school for the poor children who needed to be taught .

Society (PB)

Something Im really passionate about is my society. As a society we encounter many types of problems and situations on a day to day basis. Many of these problems can be solved with science and it techniques. The problems we face as a society and the scientific solution that may arise from these problems are often influenced by social, economic, political, environment, cultural and ethical factors. One major issue we face today is passive smoking. The major question we ask is what is a scientific solution to prevent people from smoking? The problem with passive smoking is people smoking cigarettes that are polluting the air. The cigarettes are also harming people body especially their lungs. This issue is very significant in our society many people smoke cigarettes. My proposed solution to this problem is to remove the harmful chemicals in a cigarette. Science can help by changing everything in the cigarette.

My solution can solve this problem. My solution might work because with changing the ingredients inside a cigarette people wouldn't be so addicted and less harmful. I do think people will continue to smoke. Cigarettes companies may not agree to change ingredients because of the fear that their business will fail. One factor that may influence the success of my solution is social. People will start communicating to others the message for the cigarette change. I know this will occur because I a lot of people may agree with the change and others may not. There will commercials and bulletin boards of my solution. There might also be a strike against my solution. I feel that my solution will be positive towards people who want to quit smoking and delete the factor of passive smoking.

August Rush (FC)

I first watched the movie "August Rush" in music class in the 10th grade. This movie is about a child music prodigy. Lyla is a cellist and Louis is a guitar player. The both of them fall in love the first time they meet each other, both of them were following the music that was coming from a nearby concert. Lyla and Louis separated with out seeing each other because they had different lives. Lyla had their baby Evan, a prodigy born to music. Lyla got into a accident and her father gave the baby to a orphanage as he did not want the baby to affect her career. Eleven years later, Evan travels around New York City trying to find his parents. In New York his musical gift leads him to success but also trouble. A man “the wizard “ uses Evan to make money and prevents him from achieving success. He escapes and runs into a church and people there are surprised by his gift and send him to the music school Juillard. After being in Juillard for a while people start to recognize his knowledge and love for music and Evan and his parents soon to reunite. The theme of the movie would be music and the music that comes from Evan's world. The lesson in the movie I would say is know your purpose. God created you the way you are , you were created with a purpose in mind and are made to be able to fulfill that purpose. Never change because of others. Evan has many character traits. One positive character trait is believing. Evan always believed in his music. He believed his music would help him travel and go places. Most importantly he believed music would lead him to find his parents. Another positive trait Evan had was bravery. Evan didn't listen to what others said; he traveled around New York looking for his parents following the music. Although following the music led him into some trouble like Wizard he found his way right out and continued to follow the music. Evan was a brave young boy who was not afraid to show his love for music.

Upcoming Exam (ID)

On Friday November 8 , there will be a statistics exam. When ever I hear the word exam I get so nervous. Exams are always hard for me because there based off information we learned from day one. Writing this blog will help me study for the exam. Topics included on the exam will be methods of data collection , Bias , how to create frequency tables & histograms and how to create dot plots and outliers. If you look at my blog from a couple of weeks ago I wrote a post about the methods of data collection. Bias is when the results of the sample are not representative of the population. There are 3 Sources of bias , sampling bias , non response bias and response bias. I really have a hard time remember the 3 but Im going to study so it can stick in my head. A sampling bias is used to obtain the individuals in sample. A nonresponse bias exists when individuals in the sample dont respond to the survey. A response bias exists when the answers on a survey dont reflect the respondents feelings. I also have to remember the 4 methods of data collection , which are a use of survey , simulation us of mathematical model , observation study and experiment. The exam will also include the level of measurements which is nominal, ordinal, interval and ratio. So far these are things I know off the top of my head I will study for the next couple days. Mr . Rich also gave us a review packet that we can always go over to help us study.

A Very Interesting Book (SSR)

Last week my friend let me borrow this book to read. Every since my eyes has been glued to the book. I am now on the second to last chapter in the book I am so eager to read everyday. I read this book when Im on my way to school and I read this book when Im bored at home. Any chance I get to read I do. This book represents the drug game in the late 80's from the inner cities of Philadelphia. A young girl named Gina from the projects in Harlem who meets and falls in love with a drug dealer named Quadir. Quadir has a daily battle with the streets fighting over his drug empire. Gena faces challenges holding on to her life dealing with people wanting her dead because she's Quadirs' girlfriend. Both of them find themselves caught up in vicious world battling against those who hate them and their success.   Reading this book it really opened my eyes to what happens in the drug game. Although this book is fiction the drug game inspired it. I found this book very interesting because I havent read anything like it. One thing I liked while reading this book was there were so many surprises. Many things happened in each chapter that I didnt expect. It was such an interesting book , i recommended this book to
Jenai. I also heard that there is a part 2 and 3 to the book which Im very eager to read.

My Only Sister ( FC)

My little sister and I have a love hate relationship. We can be mad at each other for the most simplest things. My sister is 11 years old in the 7th grade and she swears she knows it all. She is really smart but she likes to flaunt it to much. She always want to challenge me when it comes to school and its so annoying. Knowing that I am older and smarter I really try to ignore her. A lot of our arguments are school based. We argue about whose better in math , science and english. One argument leads into another and we will be fist fighting. I can honestly say that those arguments actually build our relationship. Even though arguing with her is annoying I actually love it. It makes me happy arguing with her. Sometimes I would be immature and start the arguments. I think she loves arguing too because she actually entertains it. I really enjoy my little sisters company she is my only sister. Without her my house would be so boring with no one for me to talk to. I know that when I go off to college my sister will miss me but I am going to miss her to. She always acts like she does not like me but I know she loves me.

I Actually Like School (PB)

As I got older I grew passionate towards school. When I was in elementary school I hated school. There were so many annoying kids and annoying teachers. Teachers were the worst , always telling you what to do like they were your parent. Teachers always yelled and they were so boring to me. I used to think school was so pointless. At a young age this mentality was really bad. What I didnt know was that school was actually helpful. School actual taught me new things. After a while I fell in love with learning something new. Anytime I learned something new in school I was so happy. Learning something new made me happy because I realized it was the reason My mom made me come to school everyday. When my grades started improving I started to like school. I grew passionate towards school. I started to enjoy challenges. Teachers were still annoying to me but I learned that I should care less about that and more about the work. Now that I am in highschool I really enjoy learning. There are so many different level of maths and sciences. My favorite subject is math. Im passionate about math as well. Im passionate about math because theres so many new things to learn. I actually enjoy coming to school everyday all though im late sometimes. I also like school because of my friends.

Interdisciplinary Post (ID)

In Statistics, we are learning about data collection. Statistics is the science of collecting , organizing, analyzing and interpreting data in order to make decisions. Data consists of information coming from observations , counts , measurements or responses. This week, we are learning about the four methods to collecting data. The four methods are survey use, simulation use of mathematics / physical model , observation study and experiment. I am not too familiar with these methods so reading my notes over and over will help me get a better understanding. The first method is using a survey which is an investigation of one or more traits of a population. The investigation is done through questioning and interviewing in person, phone or mail. The second method is simulation use of mathematics which allows researchers to study situations that are impractical or too dangerous to create in real life. The third method is observation study which is when researchers observe and measure characteristics of the sample group of interest but, do not change the conditions of the group. The last method is experiment which is when members of the sample group and responses are observed. I know that towards the end of this week Mr. Rich will test us on this information.

Free Choice (FC)

Applying to college is such a long process. There are so many things I have to get to get done with such little time. Im still caught up on the fact that I am a senior. I still cant believe all the people I grew up is either in college or applying. Its nice to watch somebody go and do better things and grow up but, its weird when its time for you to grow up. I am so grateful to be in a program like Street Squash to help me with applying to college. One thing I have to work on during this applying to college process is time management. I have to make sure I turn everything in on time because that is extremely important. I have to make sure I know all my due dates so I wont miss out on any opportunities. One of my biggest challenges during this college process is my college list. College lists are list of colleges you like and you plan to apply to. My issue with this is I am not sure on what college I want to go to. There are so many schools that I have visited and that I liked. Im unsure on which to pick. Another issue with applying to college is finding a school that will accept my GPA which is 78.58 . As well as my SAT scores. Going into my Senior year of high school I did research on colleges and learned that there are many schools that will accept my grades. Another challenge that I face during this process is looking into schools and seeing what they offer. Im afraid that ill go to a school were none of there majors interest me. Something I regret is not doing my research during my sophomore and junior year. I feel like if I did previous research on schools building my college list wouldnt be so difficult.
